Frequently Asked Questions
In the interest of serving you better, this page will continue to evolve as we field new questions from members and Ambassadors. If you have a question that isn't addressed here, feel free to contact us and we'll be happy to answer it for you.
Networking:
When you say "networking," are you talking about network marketing or MLM?
No, but that's a common misunderstanding. While some of our members do run network-marketing business models, we mean "networking" in the sense of interacting with each other, both in groups and in one-to-one meetings, so we can learn more about each other's business and get better at referring customers to each other.
Do I have to attend any one particular YLC group, or can I visit them all?
Attendance at YLC groups is open to anyone, and it's a great idea to get to know as many YLC members as you can throughout your community.
Other networking organizations only allow one member per profession with the purpose of "locking out your competition," but we don't view others in our field as rivals. We're about building alliances, not walls.
What are the rules at the networking groups?
We keep our rules simple. "Be nice!" is the main one. Don't badmouth other members or do anything that might cause them to badmouth you. Remember, negative word of mouth travels much faster than positive word of mouth!
Do I have to pass referrals at each meeting?
No. We know how intimidating it can be if you're in a group that requires you to pass referral slips every week, especially if you're new to networking. We focus instead on building solid relationships with each other so that we can give those referrals over time.
Referrals only matter if they're based on genuine knowledge of each party's needs and capabilities. We urge members to schedule one-to-one meetings as often as possible to keep each other in the know.
What if I don't know anything about how to network?
We've all been there, honest! Even the greatest networking geniuses had to start somewhere. Your Local City makes it easy to just sit and observe the goings-on, with no pressure. You'll pick it up naturally as you get to know your fellow members and watch the networking process unfold.
What if I'm too shy to talk about myself in a networking group?
Your Local City provides a great natural "training ground" for its members to learn how to give an effective "elevator speech" and interact with other business owners. Most groups also feature each members in rotation as a "guest speaker" to talk in more depth about their products and services.
Many of our members consider themselves shy or introverted by nature, but they find that the friendly, casual environment of a YLC meeting is the perfect incubator for gaining those vital self-promotion skills.
If I can just visit the groups for free, why should I become a member?
After the first couple of visits, you’re required to become a member to continue with the groups and participate in the online directory. Membership equips you with all the tools you need to follow up on the new connections you’re making. YLC members are allowed to spotlight their businesses through presentations, participate in weekly prize drawings, or have their business listed in the YLC directory, just to name a few examples.
Members benefit tremendously from YLC's online presence, which attracts huge daily web traffic. Your directory listing makes it possible for any YLC member -- or anyone else, anywhere in the country -- to find your contact information immediately when they need your services. Membership also allows you to post super-affordable banners and ads on the YLC website. You can even run your entire business from YLC if you have a mini-website with us. The meetings are great, but they're just the tip of the iceberg.
Online Marketing:
How many directory listings can I have on the YLC website?
It depends on what level of membership you’ve signed up for. You can view the comparative chart of membership options here.
How do I create or change my directory listing?
Log in with your User Name and Password (supplied to you when you join) and click on “Listings.” You’ll see a series of fields which you’ll fill with your business description, contact information, photo and/or logo, and links to your website or other social media sites.
You can change this information as needed by simply logging in and making the adjustments yourself. But if you’re having trouble, don’t drive yourself crazy -- just contact us and we’ll be happy to help you.
How do I place ads on the YLC website?
Simply log into your account at any time to gain access to our online advertising options, or to change or update your company information. You can also send us all the information for your listing and we’ll post it for you..
How do I post an article on the YLC website?
Go to the article web site for your geographical region and click “Article Login.” Then enter your YLC User Name and Password to gain access to the article administration page.
Can my directory listing direct customers to my own website, Facebook page, etc?
Absolutely -- in fact, we highly recommend that you include the URL to your own website, if you have one, as well as links to your social media sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
How do I announce upcoming events or special offers on the YLC website?
As a member, you’re allowed to post your company’s events or offers (no one else’s, please!) on the YLC events calendar. Simply login and follow the instructions for posting a news item.
Ambassadorships:
Can I start a YLC networking group?
Yes. Your ability to grow as an Ambassador is unlimited. Build your networking group according to our guidelines -- just make sure you give your group the proper care and attention. Start slow and learn your new business. Development of a new group requires mandatory training and approval from YLC.
Can I team up with another Ambassador in co-running a group?
Yes. Some Ambassadors with busy schedules find it a great relief to pair up with another Ambassador and work out some sort of co-hosting situation, so that if one of them can't make the meeting, the other can keep things rolling.
